Do dreams die? … or are dreams and original ideas simply edited for content and clarity?
Each of us has experienced the glorious moment of having a thought of something-more — an idea and marvelous what-if. Said moment is brimming with energy
and motivation. Possibilities of support and resources are clearly in sight as the ever-expanding balloon of details and directives fills our {mind’s-eye} view.
Then … we take the first, the second and third proverbial steps in the direction of that idea {dream}. The way is a tad winding and the ever-present pull of the black hole of “Give Up!” radiates us with fear, what-if’s and if-only’s. The closer we move to it, the more it pulls us into its magnetic field.
But we press on.
We realize certain modifications are needed; we note and adjust. There is a season of reworking our plans for clarity, and then … then there is a time of regrouping. A time that feels like we are in slow-motion. The black hole of “Give Up!” has less of a pull on us but we still periodically lose sight of our goals. {Or unrelated occurrences may require our time and attention, necessitating a pause of the journey in the direction of our dream.}
The Meantime {…}
We can begin to lock in {hyper-focus} on faulty beliefs and doubts. We don’t completely give up but we come face-to-face with the reality that what we believe — reflected in our thoughts, words and actions — determines what we will ultimately do next.
It is here that we move much more tentatively {and thought-fully}.
From here, we choose to resume our course in one of two ways:
- We move back in the original direction of our dreams and experience the success related to The Idea. Regardless of how winding and tentative those steps become.

- We move a bit {out of bounds} but we do find our way back to that glorious moment when we first had The Idea. Proceeding with the strength and insights gained by taking “the long way around.”
Whether we take the back way {with its potential to divert us completely} or directly walk out the remaining steps to Success … we still dance daily with doubts:
Can dreams die? Are my ideas more fantasy than reality?
Life doesn’t always go as we plan {hope and dream about}. But the root desire of our ideas and dreams never dies. Even when life doesn’t go as we plan — and we are {constantly} tempted to give up — the dream remains “alive” in our spirit.
Disappointment is a powerful force. It either makes us bitter — or better.
If we get bitter … our “relationship” with our ideas and dreams die an emotional/mental death. And we face the possibility of losing much more than an idea or dream …
If we get better … We observe that sometimes the desire of our heart {spirit/our dreams} arrives in disguise. It didn’t look like we expected, we don’t recognize it because the events surrounding it were different than we wanted.
Nearly every major breakthrough innovation has been preceded by a string of failed or misguided executions. ~Frans Johansson
It is useful to allow some time between the {perceived} death of a dream and its burial. Because metamorphosis resembles death. But it is actually the stage of transformation we go through just before we fly …
